The initial idea for a podcast and website was hatched by Nick DeForest who quickly got good friend, Matt Fleming on board in December of 2019. The pair then set off to record their first episode at the 2019 NIAAA National Conference in National Harbor Maryland.

After the corona virus hit the world stage the GTADs used their growing network to organize a series of Zoom meetings. The need for more was apparent and they expanded into online conferences and resources which brings community members from around the globe together to share, learn and grow. The team of Nick and Matt doubled as they brought in good friends Dave Horner and Chris Mott to be a part of the conference organizing team and sounding board for all GTAD related ideas.
